Two hikes for your must-do list in Colorado:
The 5.2-mile Fourth of July Trailhead south of Nederland, Colo. (located inside the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area), is ideal for summer-to-fall hiking and offers high-altitude peaks, waterfall views and even chances for a lakeside lunch. Catch wildflower blooms in autumn, but be sure to visit before snow hits the ground. Get there: The Fourth of July Trailhead is located six miles northwest of Eldora off CO 111.
Near Steamboat Springs:
Impressive no matter what season, Fish Creek Falls (pictured) near Steamboat Springs is a 283-foot waterfall surrounded by aspen groves and attracts horseback riders, bikers, hikers, picnickers, and, in the winter, ice-climbers. Get there: From Steamboat Springs: Go north on 3rd Ave., then turn right on Fish Creek Falls Rd.
