Architecture geeks, take heart. Now you can now plan your very own customized voyage through the most architecturally significant buildings in your favorite city with the new ArchiMap app.
Currently available in Chicago, London, Madrid and New York City—coming soon to Los Angeles, Berlin and Barcelona—the app greets users with a summary of their chosen city's architectural heritage, then lets them create a tour from the hundreds of buildings that are an hour or less from the city's center.
Not only are buildings shown by distance, they're also color-coded by time period. For example, in Chicago, by contemporary, post-modern, art deco, The Chicago School, etc. You can then narrow them down further by class like residential, commercial, religious and monuments.
For those who like the ease of having things planned out for them, pre-set ArchiRoutes allow them to visit all the buildings in a particular category, such as Frank Lloyd Wright masterpieces, Along the Chicago River and the Brand New, a selection of the best architecture works in that city in the last five years.
