Baha'i House of Worship

North America’s only Baha’i temple, this glimmering structure with lace-like ornamentation is across from Lake Michigan in the northern suburb of Wilmette. It was completed in 1953 after more than 30 years of work and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. Like all Baha’i structures, this one has a high dome (it rises 135 feet inside) and nine sides, a number symbolizing completeness for the Baha’i religion. 6 am-10 pm. Admission free.
