What You Need to Do in Chicago Today: Wednesday, January 31

This is where we’ll be today.

Murder at Mardi Gras @ Carnivale: It’s a classic “who done it” in an untraditional venue. Join Carnivale for this interactive murder mystery dinner that will be as much fun as it will be challenging to solve. The night kicks off with a cocktail party followed by a full dinner and show. Tickets: $65. Starts at 6:30 pm, 702 W. Fulton St.

New Winter Cocktails @ El Che: The new drink menu at El Che is on fire! Helmed by Beverage Director Jacyara de Oliveira, called a “woman to watch” by Food & Wine, the drinks marry the resto-bar’s Latin flavors with de Oliveira’s creative takes on classic cocktails—including a good dose of fire. As one example, the Caramelized Rum Old Fashioned features an 8-year aged rum combined with a flame-torched combination of Demerara sugar and Angostura bitters with a profile enhanced by orange bitters and sweet citrus oils. Open 5-10 pm M-Th, 5-11 pm F-Sa, 845 W. Washington Blvd.

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic @ Thalia Hall: The reigning king of funk brings the Mardi Gras Madness Tour to Chicago with slick grooves, tons of amplified instrumentation and a few surprises thrown in, too. Tickets: $38-160. 7 pm, 1807 S. Allport St.
