BLKS @ Steppenwolf: With temperatures dipping into the negative today, warm up with a brand-new world premiere at Steppenwolf. BLKS is from award-winning poet and playwright Aziza Barnes and is “an ingenious portrait of a day in the life of four young black women discovering life’s uncomfortable truths in New York City” and has been receiving rave reviews in its first days on stage. A Tribute to Studio Ghibli @ Music Box Theatre: The groundbreaking Japanese animation studio is paid tribute to at the Music Box Theatre in a multi-day exposition that concludes on January 4. Screenings of several of the studio’s iconic films, including “Porce Rosso,” “Kiki’s Delivery Service” and “Ponyo,” will be projected, all on 35mm film. Tickets: $11 for each screening or $35 for a series pass. Times vary, 3733 N. Southport.

Happy Hour Candle Making @ Hutch Café: Get some drinks and learn a new skill at Hutch tonight. Drink and app specials will be on hand and so will supplies to teach you how to make your own beeswax candles. Tickets: $49. 5:30-7 pm, 416 W. Ontario.
