There's nonstop energy in the suburban enclave of Rosemont, situated 20 minutes north of downtown and five minutes from O'Hare International Airport. Rosemont boasts major event centers, entertainment venues, big-name restaurants, unique museums and one of the largest—and most affordable—shopping meccas in the city.
Rosemont is easily accessible from Chicago, with the Blue Line offering a quick trip to the Rosemont station. At this transport hub, travelers can catch more than a dozen Pace buses to the surrounding areas
Where to Eat and Drink
Rosemont is home to MB Financial Park, a 200,000-square-foot entertainment complex featuring restaurants, games, live music, comedy, family fun and more.
In the complex you'll find Bub City (5411 Park Place, 847.261.0399), an offshoot of the River North spot that's home to barbecue, booze and live country music. Sip on margaritas and nosh on Mexican food at the lively cantina Adobe Gila's (5455 Park Place, 847.233.0080). Kings Dining & Entertainment (5505 Park Place, 847.233.0099) offers something for everyone with 20 bowling lanes, billiard tables and shuffleboard tables, plus food and drinks to keep visitors sated.
But there's plenty of dining beyond the park, too. Two classic Chicago steakhouses have set up shop in Rosemont: Gene & Georgetti (9421 W. Higgins Road, 847.653.3300) serves its classic steaks, chops, seafood and Italian specialties in a supper-club environment while Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse (5464 N. River Road, 847.928.9900) features steakhouse favorites, including Midwest-sourced Black Angus beef that's even earned its own USDA prime certification.
For a less fancy—but no less delicious—meal, local favorite Paradise Pup (1724 S. River Road, 847.699.8590) has burgers, shakes, hot dogs and fries, with picnic-table seating.
Where to Shop
There's one style-filled Goliath in this area, and that's the Fashion Outlets of Chicago (5220 Fashion Outlets Way, 847.928.7500). The two-level shopping mecca counts over 130 retailers and offers up to 75 percent off merchandise from some of the biggest names in fashion.
Retailers include Cole Haan, DVF, David Yurman, Michael Kors, Moncler, Prada, Nike, Burberry, Under Armour and Vince—and that's barely scratching the surface. Neiman Marcus Last Call, Saks Fifth Avenue Off Fifth and Barneys New York Warehouse also provide high-end department-store deals.
Because you'll need fuel for power shopping, there are plenty of food options, too, from burgers to tacos to chocolate. The mall is truly is a one-stop shop for all things stylish.
Things to Do and See
Allstate Arena (6920 Manheim Road, 847.635.6601) is home to the WNBA Chicago Sky, the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League and the DePaul University men's basketball team. It seats close to 18,000 and plays host to plenty of live music and entertainment events, plus an outdoor flea market in the summer months.
Nearby, the smaller Rosemont Theatre (5400 N. River Road, 847.671.5100) showcases theatrical events, Broadway musicals and live music in a more intimate environment.
The Big Ten Conference's headquarters is located within MB Financial Park. It recently launched The Big Ten Experience (5440 Park Place, 847.696.1010), with 13 interactive exhibits that trace the conference's history back to its founding in 1896.
Chicago comedy club Zanies (5437 Park Place, 847.813.0484) also has an MB Financial Park location, bringing some of the hottest comedy acts outside the city.
