Bring the Kids to These 9 Charlotte Restaurants

Not only are kids allowed at these eateries, but the menus are packed with comfort food for both young and young at heart.

For those with little ones, finding a good place to grab a bite can be a hassle. Luckily, plenty of spots in Charlotte cater to a refined palate and kids’ developing taste buds.

Mama Ricotta’s Restaurant

Kids love pasta and pizza, and Mama Ricotta’s has plenty of both. Whether young ones order classic spaghetti and meatballs from the kids’ menu or share some cheese pizza from the adult menu, familiar flavors and friendly service make Mama’s a popular stop on a family outing.

Viva Chicken

You steer away from chicken fingers on a visit to this Peruvian rotisserie joint. Youngsters under 12 could have fries with pulled or rotisserie chicken from the Healthy Kids menu, but opt for yuca instead. Plus they'll have fun saying it. Be daring and order cilantro-infused rice or quinoa on your plate.

Pike’s Old Fashioned Soda Shop

In this 1950s-style diner, parents and kids can both indulge in grilled cheese, burgers and ice-cream floats. On a recent trip to Pike's, a father and his daughter bit into BLTs at the same time, munching on freshly fried bacon, Duke’s mayo, lettuce and tomato. After the meal, they split a milkshake.

Dish

Dish is a down-home kind of joint. The kids menu offers familiar items such as chicken tenders, but the dinner menu—filled with Southern classics—is also good for a young and adventurous eater. What better spot for a youngster to try a fried green tomato?

Chima Brazilian Steakhouse

With plenty of meat served on swords, called Rodízio, and corresponding tokens that indicate whether you’re ready for more meat, little boys and girls with an adventurous spirit are sure to be impressed at Chima. Plus, if you’re celebrating a birthday, the team will deliver dessert with a candle, as well as a card with a picture of your table.

The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar

The live cowfish in the huge aquarium should help keep the kids entertained and don't worry about explaining why you're eating the fish, the restaurant's menu is chock-full of burger options to distract the younger ones. There's a wide-open patio to give kids a place to stretch their legs and any one of the nine hand-spun milkshakes are sure to satisfy.

Tupelo Honey's, Charlotte, NC

Tupelo Honey Cafe

With Discovery Place less than four miles up the road, Tupelo Honey is the perfect spot before or after a visit for kids to discover standards like a grilled cheese sandwich and french fries. Expand horizons with grilled mountain trout or introduce them to Southern fare with goat cheese grits or shrimp and grits.

JJ's Red Hots

With three locations across Charlotte, JJ's  aims to please and they cater to all ages. The kid's menu helps introduce the smaller ones with Puppydawgs, chopped dogs that are battered and fried, while older ones can experiment by adding chili, onions cheese, bacon and more. There's also a PB&J option if that's the route you choose.

Waldhorn Restaurant

A great spot to introduce little ones to international cuisine—German-style. The family-run establishment's kids menu offers a small wiener schitzel and käsespätzle (homemade noodles with Swiss cheese) in addition to vanilla ice cream with M&Ms for dessert. For a myriad of options, come on the weekend for the Sunday brunch buffett.
