The original Dock Street Theatre opened in 1736 with the play “The Recruiting Officer” and was the first building designed for theatrical use in the Americas. Today’s Dock, constructed in the early 1800s, just underwent a $20 million renovation. The Charleston Stage Company produces a number of performances at the historic theater throughout the year.
