Best Places in Brisbane for Sweet Treats

There's no excuse needed to try one of these delightful sweet treats in Brisbane.

From the towering soft serve creations at Double Good to cookie dough date nights at DoughLord and 12 different flavours at I Heart Brownies, Brisbane is filled with sweet surprises. Here are seven of the city’s best sweet treats because, let’s face it, there is always room for dessert.

Rows and rows of delectable brownies at I Heart Brownies

I Heart Brownies

Drop into the cute kiosk in Brisbane’s CBD or visit the tiny I Heart Brownies Fortitude Valley factory where the baking brownies make chocolate lovers go weak at the knees. With a dozen different varieties, including cherry coconut, triple chocolate and peanut butter chip, your first visit probably won’t be your last. Even better, the I Heart Brownies kitchen is entirely gluten-free.

Exciting sundaes at Double Good

Double Good

According to Double Good, life is too short not to have a little umbrella in your ice cream. Specialising in towering soft serve sundaes with edible bases—think funnel cakes, half a coconut, mango cheek or a pineapple boat—these sweet treats really are "double good."  If you can’t handle a whole sundae, the soft serve is also available in a cone. Favourite flavours include macadamia, piña colada and the Insta-worthy Black Elvis, which blends coconut ice-cream with black-activated charcoal.

Raw cookie dough done right at DoughLord

If you didn’t know cookie dough was a "thing," you have been missing out. Brisbane sweet tooths have been bowing to the power of the DoughLord for a while now. Visit the Fortitude Valley store to enjoy a scoop of delicious doughy goodness on its own or topped with ice-cream for a decadent dough sundae. When your Mum told you that you should never eat raw cookie dough, she was wrong. This dough doesn’t contain eggs so it is perfectly safe to eat raw.

Combine flavours of fluffy gelato at Nom Nom Natural Gelato (Courtesy Nom Nom Natural Gelato)

Nom Nom Natural Gelato

Customers drive across town to Bulimba to get their fix of Nom Nom Natural Gelato flavours such as coffee and Tim Tams, fig and cinnamon, gingerbread, green tea and classic pistachio. Sorbets feature organic fruit sourced from the Rocklea Markets. All tastes and dietary requirements, including dairy-free, vegan and gluten-free are catered for at this friendly, family-run gelataria. As if you need any more reasons to visit, there is a new flavour to try each week.

Try one of the many clever treats at Vanilla Pod

Vanilla Pod

Everything tastes as good as it looks at Vanilla Pod, a cute Ascot café stocked with delights including pretty-as-a-picture cupcakes and high-end neenish tarts. Here you’ll find plenty of classic treats along with clever speciality desserts. Burger cupcakes for State of Origin, anyone? Enjoy something small with a cup of coffee or buy one of the large feature cakes and share it with your besties.

Sit back and relax with a slice of heavenly cake at Cake & Bake

Cake & Bake

After taking a sabbatical from butter, eggs and flour, Brisbane’s dessert doyenne Jocelyn Hancock returned to the city’s sweet treats scene with Cake & Bake. Given the store’s West End location, it seems only fitting the brownies are a little bit hippie with swirls of halva and tahini, but this only makes you love them more. There is a menu featuring desserts such as light-as-a-feather Paris-Brest and a honey soaked and toasted almost slice, or you can ogle the glass cabinet and take home a treat.

There are so many unique desserts to tantalise your tastebuds at Chocolate Komberry Co

Chocolate Komberry Co

When you’ve got amazing desserts being served from a custom Kombi Van at Chocolate Komberry Co, it is hard to know what to do first: eat that crazy ice cream-stuffed brioche or take a photo of your dessert and its funky wheels. Try the Chocolate Billionaire Milky Bun, premium dark chocolate gelato toasted in a brioche doughnut and finished with Nutella drizzle, a Golden Gaytime donut or the psychedelic Rainbow Unicorn cone. This multi-coloured soft serve creation swirled into a cronut cone is a feast for the eyes and the stomach.
