Dedicated to preserving the history of this unique island, the Martha’s Vineyard Museum houses some 30,000 items from the 17th-21st centuries ranging from archaeological material to paintings and art to fishing boats. Its library holds books, manuscripts and other written paraphernalia, as well as nautical charts and island maps. Don’t miss the Carriage Shed that displays all sorts of vessels, The Tryworks replica of a trying out station, and more. Open M-Sa 10 am-5 pm. Admission: $4-7.
