Boston Athenaeum

This landmark is one of the city’s largest and oldest membership libraries and its first museum of fine arts. Its collections include the personal library of George Washington and art by John Singer Sargent. Exhibitions upcoming: “New England on Paper,” April 6-Sept. 3. Visitors may tour the first floor and galleries M-Th 9 am-8 pm, F 9 am-5:30 pm, Sa 9 am-4 pm, Su noon-4 pm. Art and architecture tours: Su at 1 pm, M at 5:30 pm, Tu and Th at 3 pm, reservations required. Free admission to museum; donation of $5 requested for special exhibitions.
