Balkan Brilliance

Goran Bregovic is one of the world’s most talented and internationally known Balkan musicians. The prolific composer of over 33 movie scores and 14 original albums, director of multiple orchestras, guitarist, singer, and pianist, Bregovic continues to enliven audiences the world round with his distinctive blend of popular Balkan themes, big band, and tango. This month he’s in Rome to direct the “La Notte della Taranta” Orchestra, reprising traditional Italian genres as well as some of his own most celebrated original works. Forced to abandon his home in Sarajevo during the Bosnian war, Bregovic attributes particular significance to the unifying capacity of song, stating, “I speak the first language of the world, the one everyone understands: music.” Auditorium PDM.
