In Downtown Atlanta, Industrial-Chic Aloft Opens Its Doors

Atlanta’s newest hotel brings pop-art sensibilities and tech-savvy features to the urban traveler

An urban hotel with an urban aesthetic located in the middle of an urban zone: It’s the recipe for the Starwood’s Aloft brand of hotels, and now the recipe has been served Southern-style in downtown Atlanta.

The 10-story Aloft Atlanta Downtown is to be found on Spring Street in the heart of the skyscraper-filled business district and easily within walking distance to city landmarks like the Georgia Aquarium, the Peachtree corridor, the convention center and the World of Coca-Cola. And while the location is desirable, Aloft is counting on the property’s ultra-modern aesthetic to draw what it calls “the next generation of travelers."

Inside the hotel—which underwent an extensive renovation—pop art and industrial-chic decor extend to every corner. Arriving travelers will find a lobby that's as much about being a community lounge space as it is about pick-up and drop-off. Head outdoors to find a swimming pool and space for play—or for more relaxation.

Upstairs, the 254 loft-like, industrial-flavored guest rooms are outfitted with sleek furnishings, flat panel televisions and connections so travelers can stream a Netflix binge to the TV from their tablet.  (As part of its “tech-forward” approach to lodging, Aloft is rolling out an RFID-based check-in system to select properties that will allow travelers to skip the front desk and access their rooms via a smart phone.)

W XYZ Bar at Aloft hotels

For nightlife, the in-house W XYZ bar—a signature element of the Aloft brand—promises live shows from local musicians. It’s a welcome departure from the sleepy hotel bars to be found on the business travel circuit, and for the urban traveler looking for affordable style points in Atlanta’s downtown hotel scene, the whole property should be a pleasant surprise.
