Strut your stuff along with about 10,000 revelers at the East Atlanta Strut 11 am-9 pm Saturday, Sept. 28. The annual festival takes place in East Atlanta Village along Flat Shoals and Glenwood Avenues to showcase the “hottest in-town neighborhood in Atlanta.”
Enjoy live music and an adult game area where contests of strength, stamina and beard growth are conducted. The free Kids Village is open 11 am-5 pm and includes giant games and fun for all ages. A street market features more than 100 artists and crafters and plenty of food and beverage vendors including King of Pops, Blu Cantina, Holy Taco and Graveyard Tavern.
Meet the llamas from Southeast Llama Rescue in front of Branan Towers and play Llama Poop Bingo. Meet the new Fire Station 13 truck and race in giant hamster balls and at the Motor City South drag races.
Because of crowd congestion, festival-goers are asked to leave non-service pets at home. Parking is limited, and public transport, walking or biking is recommended.
East Atlanta Strut Parade
The quirky Strut parade takes place at 2 pm along Patterson Avenue. It embraces all things East Atlanta, with groups of neighbors encouraged to decorate themselves and anything on wheels to join the parade. Marching bands, dragons on wheels and the Queens of the Strut, dogs and llamas are some of the strut-worthy groups and critters on parade.
Drinks and Wristbands
Event-goers over 21 with valid I.D. can purchase a $5 wristband, which allows them to buy alcoholic beverages at any of 15 participating neighborhood bars and restaurants and walk around the festival area with them. Proceeds from sales of the wristbands go to support the annual festival and East Atlanta community.
“We’ll be serving up a selection of beers from Creature Comforts Brewing, including Classic City Lager,” The Strut stated. “George Dickel will be offering samples of a special cocktail, and Tito’s vodka and Four Roses Bourbon will round out the drinks menu. There will be two food courts and of course fantastic food and drink will be available from East Atlanta’s bars and restaurants.”
Roll Before You Strut
The Roll Before You Strut classic car and motorcycle show is 7 pm to midnight Friday, Sept. 27 at Motor City South on Glenwood Avenue. Listen to live music from Swing Set, Magna Pop and Five Eight. The event is free for viewers, $10 per vehicle.
