Downtown Augusta is full of heart. And it's never showcased better than during the aptly named Arts in the Heart festival, a three-day affair of dining, dancing, painting, literary pursuits and more.
Arts in the Heart is one of the South's fast-growing festivals; more than 80,000 people attended in 2018. It's recognized as a Top 20 Southeast Tourism Society Festival and is ranked in Sunshine Artist magazine's Top 200 festivals. It runs 5-9 pm Sept. 20, 11 am-9 pm Sept. 21, and noon-7 pm Sept. 22.
A foodies' paradise, the Global Village lets patrons sample authentic ethnic cuisine from more than 20 countries and is cooked by local ethnic associations. Five stages offer hundreds of performances all weekend; new this year are female performers singing a tribute to Lillith Fair on the Troubador Stage and Ingrid Woode and the Woode Tribe Orchestra on the Global Stage. The Community Stage showcases the best in local talent.
Of course, Arts in the Heart wouldn't be complete without art, and more than 150 local and international artists are here to show off their wares—everything from paintings and jewelry to woodworking and sculpture. Want to see them in action? Artzilla takes place at the Book Tavern, where August's most popular artists paint live during the weekend.
There are also hands-on children's activities, a Young Artists Market and Author's Alley.
