Just north of the Island Shops is Harrington Altman Ltd., an extraordinary gift shop on the west side of the highway (look for the big digital clock). The inventory here leans toward elegant—with more than a touch of “cozy” tossed in for spice. This shop features a rotating selection of tastefully striking furniture: coffee tables, sideboards, china cabinets, bookshelves, and dining tables. Many items are handpainted and one of a kind. It also stocks a medley of what your mom might call “knickknacks” or “whatnots”—lovely collectible pieces of tabletop decor that could add a touch of whimsy or an element of class to an existing display. Harrington Altman showcases some art, flower arrangements, fancy pillows, lots of handmade heirlooms, and an impressive collection of upholstery fabrics.
