Boston New England Region: Hartwell Tavern
Alerted that British troops were on the way, the Hartwell family left their home just before a battle took place in front of it. They returned to find the house undamaged, but discovered five dead British soldiers on the property. Today, the house and fields remain much as they were in 1775, and costumed interpreters add to the charm, answering questions and demonstrating period crafts and muskets. April 17-May, open Sa-Su 9:30 am-5:30 pm. June-October, open daily 9:30 am-5:30 pm.
