Boston New England Region: Hoxie House
Hoxie House
Rumored to be Cape Cod’s oldest house, this classic saltbox was built in 1637 for Rev. John Smith and his family. It’s named for Abraham Hoxie, a Sandwich whaling captain who purchased the house in the 19th century. A visit to the house museum features guides who give a hands-on social history using verbal expressions and items from the past, as well as Colonial period furnishings, including several pieces loaned from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Open June 26-Oct. 11, M-Sa 10 am-5 pm, Su 1-5 pm. Admission: $3.
